Assignments for Friday, 12/16

Discrete Math:
Students took a quiz today.  The two problems require that data be organized into either a stem-and-leaf or a box-and-whisker after which analysis is done to answer the questions.  Extra credit was offered for those students turning in completed packets that they worked on in class the last two days.  Students should check Moodle over break if they are interested in an extra credit assignment.

Algebra II:
Students reviewed the Fundamental Theorem of Algebra in class using this worksheet.

Assignments for Thursday, 12/15

Discrete Math:
Students used class time to complete the assignment from yesterday.
Completion will be checked Friday for extra credit.

Algebra II:
Students took a group quiz (Q6:5-6) on the Fundamental Theorem of Algebra.

Assignments for Wednesday, 12/14

Discrete Math:
Today was a review to learn the fine details and nuances of:

Algebra II:
Today we learned how to use the Fundamental Theorem of Algebra which tells us that ALL polynomials can be solved using complex numbers.  We are able to determine:
·      How many complex roots,
·      Possible number of real (and imaginary) roots,
·      Possible rational roots.
·      Using this information to solve for all the roots.

Assignments for Tuesday, 12/13

Discrete Math:
Today we learned to calculate Measures of Central Tendency (mean, median, mode) from a data set and a frequency table, and how to display this information using a 5 Number Summary (box & whisker).
Assignment: 14-2:  2, 7, 9, 13, 18, 28, 37, 41-45

Algebra II:
Today we learned how to use the Rational Root Theorem, another method to solve polynomial equations.  We took a quiz on polynomial division, solving polynomials, and factoring using sum/difference of cubes.
Assignment: 6-5:  1-12, 25-28, 32-34, 48-51

Assignments for Monday, 12/12

Discrete Math:
We began our study of Descriptive Statistics today, learning Categorical versus Quantitative Data, and presentation methods including Stem & Leaf, Tables, Bar Graphs, Pie Charts, Bar Graphs and Histograms.
Do 14-1: 2-3, 5, 9, 12, 15, 17-21, 23-26

Algebra II:
Today we reviewed our lessons from last week that include classification of polynomials, cubic and quartic models, finding zeroes and multiplicities, writing polynomials, synthetic division, and solving polynomial equations by graphing and factoring.
Review of 6:1-4 (link below)
Correct worksheet from Friday
Quiz Tomorrow over sections 3-4!

Assignments for Thursday/Friday, 12/8-9

Discrete Math:
Thursday was our Practice Test, Friday was the test on Probability.

Algebra II:
Thursday we solved polynomial equations using the graphing method and we reviewed synthetic division to find factors of polynomials.
Friday we solved polynomial equations using the factoring method.
The combined assignment for both days is 6-3/6-4 worksheet: all problems.

Assignments for Mon/Tues/Wed, 12/5-7

Discrete Math:
Monday - We evaluated the game of Roulette and calculated Expected Values for all possible bets, learning that Roulette is designed to cost the player approximately $6 for every $100 gambled.
Do 13-4: 1-8, calculate all expected values for Roulette bets.
Tuesday - We learned how expected value is used with life insurance and how it affects the insurance buyer.  Quiz 13:1-2,  Do 13-4: 9-16, 21-22, 25-26
Wednesday - Gambling Day!  All students had to design their own game, calculate the expected value, then play it at least twenty times and collect data to compare experimental to theoretical data.

Algebra II:
Monday - We reviewed how to write and evaluate polynomial equations and how the equations relate to their graph.  Do 6-1/6-2 review worksheets.

Tuesday - Students took the chapter 5 test.
Wednesday - We learned how to divide polynomials to find factors using long division and synthetic division.  Students also took a quiz over C6 sections 1 and 2 on polynomial equations.

Algebra II:
Today's topic was characteristics of polynomials, including end behavior, linear factors, x-intercepts (also known as zeros), and repeated zeros (also known as multiple zeros).
The assignment is 6-2: 3-11 odds, 13-16, 18-36 evens, 39-41, 43-53 odds

Thursday, December 1, 2011

Assignments for Thursday, 12/1

Discrete Math:
Today we learned about independent and dependent compound events.
Do 13-2: 15-36
We'll be having a quiz over this material next week Tuesday.

Algebra II:
Today we began our study of higher degree polynomial equations.  We learned about naming conventions and how the degree of the polynomial affects the number of turning points of the curve.
Do 6-1: 10-12, 20-26 evens, 29-41 odds, 40-50 evens, 59
Yesterday's C5 Tests were returned for students to review and correct.  Because so many students couldn't finish in time and perhaps weren't as prepared as they could (or should) have been, we'll be redoing the test next week.
